The Onyx pop-top

Two more berths, and you keep your roof.

Most pop-tops replace your roof rack. The Onyx pop-top mounts onto ours, and it is the only one in the UK that does. The rack runs all the way around it, so boards, boxes and bars still go on the roof. A Maxxair fan fits into the pop-top itself, the hard shell takes a 350W solar panel, and there is space for an awning down the side. A long-wheelbase van still has room for roof-mounted air conditioning.

Raised, it opens a two-berth space above the van with windows on three sides, so it stays cool and you can see out of it lying down. Each window has two layers: a bug screen, so you can keep the windows open all summer without the insects, and a rip-stop layer for privacy. The mattress is already up there and the telescopic ladder goes up through the hatch. Closed, it sits low and flat. It is the same unit we fit to the Arête, the Outpost and the Mesa.

How it opens. The shell is hinged along one side and lifts on two stainless steel gas struts, so it swings up as a clamshell. Push it up to open, and use the straps to pull it down again. Bungee cords draw the canvas inside as it closes, so you do not have to walk round the outside tucking it in.

The canvas is 280g rip-stop, made for British weather. It unzips for cleaning, or comes off altogether for winter storage, and a removable quilted thermal layer zips in for cooler weather.

How to order. Choose your wheelbase, choose whether we fit it, add anything you want on it, and reserve yours with £500. That £500 comes off the total. We then call you to run through your van and agree a fitting date, and your order is confirmed once we have spoken. The balance is due before your pop-top is fitted or leaves us.

Fitting. We recommend having it fitted at the Onyx workshop, and it takes a day. The hatch is a cut into your roof and the seal around it keeps the weather out, so it wants doing once and doing right. If you or your builder are fitting it, you can collect from us or we will arrange delivery and quote it separately.

Your van. The roof rack fixes into the factory roof holes and the hatch is cut into the roof itself, so we need clear access inside and out. If your van is already lined or boarded, or has anything mounted to the roof, ask us first and we will work out what is involved. If you want the roof rack now and the pop-top later, we can fit the Onyx roof rack on its own and retrofit the pop-top to it.

First deliveries are in early November 2026. If your plans change, tell us, and the first move to a new date is free. Warranty is one year, fair wear and tear. Our booking and cancellation terms are in our refunds and returns policy.

Please note: we do not run cables into the van. We mount the unit and terminate it at the roof, and the final connection to your electrical system is made by you or your builder.
